A Mother's Day poet -

The first time I held you,
I took in your baby scent,
cradled you in arms
that were unsure.
You were so tiny,
so perfect.
How could you belong to me?

***********

As you grew,
your mischievous smile
could always get the best of me,
and when your chubby little hands
reached for me,
my heart melted.

*************

Pictures of you are scattered
throughout the house.
Pictures of you trying to put on lipstick
when you were six years old,
trying to look like me...
pictures of you in your pink galoshes
and your GI Joe outfit
(yes, you were a bit of a tomboy)
as you were getting ready
to explore the woods behind our house
with your brother.

**************

I remember temper tantrums
and laughter.
I remember being awakened at dawn
with you standing over my bed
belting out a rendition of
"Jesus Loves the Little Children".

The Journey of a Daughter's Love by Cassandra Kaufman - poem from daughter to mom

As a young child, you wer my best friend,
My protector, my punisher, even my councilor
You never left my side, and
I was always at peace and felt safe.

You taught me lessons everyday,
Thewse lessons were taught without you ever knowing
You taught me about love and hate
And you taught me about life.

You told me you loved me everyday
When I was scared, you loved me,
When I was punished, you loved me,
You loved me through everything.

As a young teenager, you were a friend,
Still a protector, still my punisher
You never left my side, but
I wanted to leave yours.

You were still teaching me lessons everday,
I chose not to listen when you were looking,
But you still taught me about love,
And continued your counseling about life.

You still loved me everyday,
I pretneded not to care.
I hated when the punishing came,
But you still loved me everyday.

As a young adult, I no longer treated you as a friend,
I did not want your protectiong or your counseling
I did leave your side,
And my life went astray.

You tried to teach me lessons,
But I would not listen.
When you taught about love, hate, and life,
I ignored you.

Today, you are once again my best friend,
My protector, my punisher, my councilor
I am once again by your side,
And I feel loved and safe.

Never again will I ignore the lessons,
Never again will I allow my life to go astray,
Never again will I leave your side.

You are not only my best friend,
My protector, my punisher, my councilor,
You are my mother forever and always,
And I will love you forever and always.
